Dhananjay Hegde hails from a family which has deep roots in “Yakshagana”, a dance form of Coastal Karnataka. Dhananjay has trained under Smt. Geeta Hegde, a disciple of Sri Kamalakar Bhat, Sirsi and Pt. Vinayak Torvi. Smt. Geeta Hegde is regarded as one of the best Gurus in Hindustani classical vocal in Bangalore. Some of her students are making strides in music field.

His father, Sri G.S Hegde, was drawn towards music from his college days, where he learnt Tabla. A Bank employee by profession, music always remained his passion. His dedication towards music has made him an organizer par excellence, with his organisation “Sapthak”, making giant strides in promoting Hindustani Classical Music in Bangalore. Dhananjay was also drawn towards Yakshagana and has performed many solo acts.

Pt. Vinayak Torvi, is regarded as one of the finest musicians of the present generation. He is an acclaimed performer all over India and abroad. He is disciple of Gayanacharya Gururao Deshpande and Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.
